Surfboards and Other Icons

UFO Art Gallery

Phil Hayes' 2nd solo exhibition at UFO Art Gallery, Hong Kong, featuring paintings and artworks on canvas, surfboards and traditional mailboxes that juxtapose Australian and Chinese icons. Open August 7 to September 1, 2010.

"Surfboards and Other Icons" is the 2nd solo exhibition by Australian-born artist Phil Hayes at UFO Art Gallery, G/F 39 Graham Street, Central, Hong Kong, following his 2009 debut "Australese."

With over 20 years of making and exhibiting art across Australia, Belgium, France, Poland, Japan and Hong Kong, Hayes brings a diverse and globally informed body of work. In his day job, he is Vice President of Global Research and Development for Quiksilver International, based in Hong Kong, having previously worked as an Artist and Designer for both Rip Curl and Quiksilver.

This exhibition continues his exploration of the cultural shift between Australia and Hong Kong. Paintings, surfboards and traditional mailboxes come alive with Mao, Bruce Lee and Australian wildlife, road signs and surfers, all sitting side by side in a visual conversation between two very different worlds.

Opening: August 6, 2010, 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Exhibition runs August 7 to September 1, 2010, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
